Curious about Chiropractic but still have questions? Some of the most common questions Dr. Ashley gets are listed below, but we highly encourage you to contact her for a phone consultation to have all of your questions addressed and put your mind at ease so you can finally get the care you deserve!
Q: WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO GET CHECKED DURING MY PREGNANCY AND IS IT SAFE?
Getting adjusted is safe for all stages of pregnancy. We use specialized pillows to allow you to lay face down for treatment. We work in conjunction with your OB or midwife to ensure everything goes smoothly. We often see our moms the first time during their pregnancy after the 20th week. This is usually due to your body's center of gravity beginning to shift at that time and usually coincides with a belly beginning to bump! Symptoms are more likely to happen during this time, but the earlier in the pregnancy you get care, the more comfortable your whole pregnancy will be!
Q: HOW LONG AFTER HAVING A BABY CAN I GET ADJUSTED AGAIN? WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO GET MY BABY CHECKED AS WELL?
A: Your body needs to heal after delivery and you need time to bond with your baby. I always tell my patients that when you're ready to have visitors in your home, you're ready to be adjusted! We take proper steps to make sure you are comfortable no matter your delivery type and unless otherwise indicated by your OB or midwife, it is safe to get adjusted right after delivery. This goes for baby too! The sooner we check your little one the better, so they can give their nervous system the best start to life!
Q: WHAT KIND OF ISSUES SHOULD I LOOK FOR IN A NEWBORN/INFANT THAT MAY INDICATE THEY NEED TO BE CHECKED FOR SUBLUXATION?
Arching their back often only to one side (they are trying to relieve tension in their spines)
Head/neck leaning to one side or chin being tucked to one side
Flattening of one part of their head or skull
More obvious uneven ears & eyes
Preferring one breast when feeding
Gagging or choking on milk
Sleeping issues
Colic type symptoms
Frequent colds and/or ear infections
Dragging one leg or scooting only on one side when trying to crawl
Toes pointing in or pointing out when trying to walk
Q: WHAT ABOUT OLDER CHILDREN, DO THEY NEED TO BE CHECKED TOO?
A: Yes! Most of a child's nervous system and brain make the most neural connections and growth by age 3, so it is a critical time to be checked for interference to that growth. Once a child grows and becomes more active they encounter more trauma ( falls, sports, etc.) and need to be checked for subluxation.
Q: I HEAR POPS AND CRACKS WHEN I GET ADJUSTED, WILL IT BE THE SAME FOR MY CHILD?
A: No! Adjustments for adults are different and performed on fully grown spines. A newborn's adjustment for instance has similar pressure one would put when checking the ripeness of a peach. Those gentle techniques are continued throughout childhood and change as their spine grows. I will always inform the parent about all techniques being done on their kiddos.
Q: How long are my appointments?
Treatments will vary depending on the patient but often include evaluation, muscle/body work, progressive exercises and of course adjustment! Visit times usually range from 15-20 minutes for regular visits and around 40 minutes for an initial visit.
Q: What are your fees for services and do you take insurance?
Cornelius Chiropractic is a self pay practice. We do not bill to insurance companies, however we can provide you with a superbill for services rendered should you choose to submit them for reimbursement on your own. Call Dr. Ashley for more information!
